Ford is using a flat pressed carbon weave. These OEM parts are made out of a mould under very high pressure, which made the weave structure flat and lost the typical deep carbon view. Most aftermarket companies who work with Carbon Fiber do not have this kind of tooling and are not using molds...

Thanks this was actually a known issue with the s&b intake for many of us early adopters (got it when it first came out). sounds like they may have made some changes since then

Does your custom aibox lid experience the same issue as the plexi cover, getting sucked in. I got so tired of it i put the stock airbox back in.
