I had to replace a single tire yesterday after a flat while driving a rocky road. I really like the stock KO2's as they are surprisingly quiet and smooth, but fairly capable off-road. The flat was the result of a rock puncture which was really a tear in the center of the tread. I was surprised that the rubber would tear that easily on a rock... Now I'm a little worried about durability. Anyone else have issues, or was I just unlucky?

C sidewalls will be your only longer term issue. I used the stock tire set up for ~25k miles on lots of rocks and trails (rubicon type stuff) and no tread issues.

I just recently upgraded to the ko3 with d sidewall.

How is the ride on the KO3's compared to the KO2's? I would assume a bit harsher with the firmer sidewalls.
