Unclear of this is hardware or software issue yet, but floating it to see if the BroncoRaptor forum brain trust has any info…..

Any others experiencing Steering Angle Sensor fault? Any hints on resolving?

I was at the local track, pushing hard yesterday, came home and washed truck including spraying out mud from underside. When I backed into garage with a full lock turn, I got a nasty sound I assume coming from the rack. Also noted that after I straightened the wheel, the reverse guidance lines on back up camera view still showed full lock.

A quick DTC scan indicated a number of errors centered around PSCM and modules receiving bad data from the PSCM.

This is with steering wheels straight, note the reverse guidance still showing full lock

The noise (ugh). Only happens in reverse, going downhill and at full lock to the drivers side. The video was while I was at a full stop. After resetting DTCs and the PSCM module, I got down to only PSCM and VDM codes. It throws the majority of codes and warnings when this happens

Sorry I can’t offer any significant assistance aside from some empathy - good luck getting that resolved & hopefully it’s an easy fix. (BTW - what are you doing racing your Braptor at the track?)

It’s a dirt short course “track” at the local OHV area (Prairie City). It’s sort of a much bigger version of the short course at Raptor Off-Rodeo.

The current Google Maps view shows it when it was set up for the Ultra4, et al, rock racing series race. They bring in big boulders and add a number of jumps for the race, but remove all that for general use. Still big U turn berm, an air-catching drop off the hill and a table top jump at the bottom. In the straights you can get some significant speed. Never measured it but I’m guessing around 1.5+ miles long.

I only go out weekdays when, like yesterday, we had the place all to ourselves for the first hour and a half. As it is an open riding area you do have be aware of other vehicles at all times.

If you’ve got a Raptor in NorCal, you should lay down some laps if you’re in the area.

The “track” set up for rock race and typical routing.

My Superduty with oversize tires does this, only in reverse while backing up at full lock in only one direction, and it's a front tire with a friendly physical touch. While going forward or stationary tires clear just fine. Not sure if it's the same cause on your Raptor, but the sound is very similar.

Thanks for the thoughts. The noise in the video is when I’m at a complete stop. The only thing moving is the steering wheel. But I agree it sounds like a tire hitting a fender liner or such.

Steering Rack internals failing is the diagnosis. Due to upcoming Mojave trip, I’m opting to revert to stock steering rack for the time being. Time is of the essence!

When I get back, a friend is going to autopsy my 74 Weld housing and internals to see precisely what failed. I’ll take that info to decide how to proceed long term with alternatives of 1) staying stock, 2) using part of my 74 rack housing and a couple of 74 Weld parts to do a Stage 1 upgrade on the new OEM rack or 3) swap new OEM internals into my Stage 3 housing.

I’d also like to explore the possibility of running the Ford Performance HOSS 3.0 rack in the Raptor. If I could get around the programming, this would be a much cheaper option for future rack replacement. It’s $1300 with full tie rods (only good on regular Broncos with 3.0) vs $3000+ for HOSS 4.0 rack only!
