2022 Ford Bronco Raptor Team Named Project Warthog

Article text quoted below:
"Back in September of 2020, Ford Authority reported that Ford Motor Company had filed a trademark for “Warthog,” which we believed at the time could foreshadow the name of an upcoming high-performance Ford Bronco variant, perhaps even what most believed was the upcoming Ford Bronco Raptor. Days later, Ford Authority spies spotted a Bronco prototype with “Warthog” written on a camouflaged panel inside the wheel well, seemingly confirming this fact. Of course, that model wound up becoming the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor, but many are still wondering what the significance of the Warthog name was to the high-performance off-roader.

Now, Aerie Groeneveld, chief engineer of the Bronco Raptor, has confirmed to Ford Authority Executive executive editor Alex Luft that Warthog was indeed the codename for that particular project, which explains a lot, particularly as virtually everyone was fooled into thinking that the Bronco Raptor would, in fact, be called the Ford Bronco Warthog.

Regardless, the Bronco Raptor makes quite a bit more sense alongside the similarly upgraded Ford Ranger Raptor and Ford F-150 Raptor in The Blue Oval’s lineup. Officially revealed back in January, the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor comes equipped with the twin-turbocharged Ford 3.0L V6 EcoBoost engine – a detail Ford Authority was the first to report back in June of 2020 – which produces 418 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque.

However, as Ford Authority reported last week, the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor won’t offer much in the way of efficiency, as the EPA estimates that it will return 15 miles-per-gallon in the city, 16 on the highway, and 15 combined – the worst numbers of any Bronco model currently in Ford’s lineup. However, the new Bronco Raptor does at least sound the part, as we can hear in a video recently posted by Ford Authority.

I still wished they would have called it the Bronco Warthog instead of Raptor. Seems more fitting after seeing the huge fender flares, tire, vents, etc.
