I sleep in my truck when out on the trails and am in the age sweet spot of Bronco Raptor owners, thus I get up at night to attend to business. The problem being that when I open the doors my truck lights up and chimes like the Vegas strip, much to the chagrin of my otherwise peacefully sleeping fellow campers. Amateur astronomers, stalkers and teenagers sneaking the car out may also like to read on…

I’ve been looking for a solution using zone lighting or other settings, but to no avail. Then I read about a sparsely documented police/dark/silent mode. Using a Ford Ranger forum Foscan spreadsheet I was able to find the Forscan module settings to change to effect the change.

“Silent Mode” stops the Parking lights, DRLs, puddle lights and interior lights from coming on. It also stifle chimes. Thus I can slip out and back in without alerting the three state area,

The cool thing is the Forscan changes put a Silent Mode on/off switch selection on the Settings>Vehicle screen in the center LCD screen. Click it to “enable” and everything’s off, click it “off” and you’re back to default lighting.

Once you connect forscan to your vehicle, you only have to modify two modules (IPC, APIM). You can make the changes in the easy mode. Select IPC module, press “run service procedure”, once the table is displayed, locate “Silent Mode Control” in the module, choose “enable”, verify the change, press “Write”, verify that, the cycle the ignition switch when prompted.

Repeat that same process for the APIM module. You’ll notice that the center screen resets when you complete this module.

Once you cycle the ignition back on and open Settings>Vehicle and you’ll now see the Silent Mode on off option. Choose accordingly.
