Fenders - Paint or wrap

Didn't do either one. I have had mine since last October and they still look like new except where I scratched one by accident not paying attention after a workout. If you do paint them I would suggest something over that to protect it. The rear fenders will take a lot of high impact even with the mud flaps and everything on.

If you paint them then you're going to need to wrap them with PPF as they will get marked up. And depending on the color, vinyl might be tricky to match unless you go with a complementary color. Example I have an Azure Grey Braptor so there is no wrap that would match. IF I were to vinyl wrap it, I'd try to match a silver/gray that's already in the oem decal pack. With paint you can always 'match' the body color with some being easier than others.

I'm considering a full body stealth PPF for my Azure which will include the flares. Been trying to find some decent picks to give me an idea of what that would look like but at a min I want something to protect the panted body panels.

Complementary color wrap is a great idea. I saw a sample of a silver/grey carbon fiber wrap.

I got a price to paint them at $1,200 but the scratches and PPF requirement is not settling well with me.

I paid 700 to paint my fenders..a friend is a great painter and as I've mentioned elsewhere it's not as easy as one would think to match the body colors..he did mulitple variations until we were pretty close under most light conditions..damn huge fenders reflect light all kindsa crazy ways:)
They are being ppf'd now. I don't expect that to be too costly

Against my better judgement, I am considering getting the carbon fiber fender flares when they become available. If they are PPF’d, would that be adequate for most minor trail pinstripe situations or do you guys think that they would be too vulnerable and end up looking crappy? I don’t intend to take my Raptor on narrow trails intentionally. Rather I want to spend more time in the open desert areas of Southern California such as Johnson Valley.

If you do, of course we want to see the pics....thanks

I really like the gills and hood cowl in the CF, but agree with previous statements from others that mixing and matching CF with OEM plastic flares does not look right. So it will probably be all or nothing.

For what they’ll cost, the fact they’ll be easy to ppf before install and you’re probably buying them for looks not weight savings, I’d ppf them for a few bucks more.

i took a number of cholla hits on my unprotected OEM flares in the Mojave early this year. The desert has narrow trails too, and who wants to stop when you’re having fun. The damage wasn’t too bad, I’m fine with it (and subsequent striping) but I’d feel different if they were aftermarket CF. My OCD is situational!

Alternatively, I now carry a roll of 3” painters tape for when I find dodgy situations. it only takes a couple minutes to cover tops/leading edges of the flares and it actually works really well.

once you scratch them there’s no going back (easily)

I would definitely PPF carbon fiber, probably with stealth PPF. Everyone I know with exposed carbon fiber parts on their cars have then wrapped with stealth PPF. CF is too expensive to replace and I’m not sure you could repair satin finish CF.

my PPF guy is coming over next week and we are gonna test some vinyl ideas to go with the Azure on mine, wanted to paint match but worried about durability and headache even after PPF on top, gonna try and match it with vinyl he thinks he found.

Welcome to BroncoRaptor.com! 🍻 Cool color, please post pics and details of what you decide. We Love pics!

Yes. Xpel gloss Black PPF. They did not do any prep on the roof. It shows the texture on the roof but now its glossy.
I might remove the areas that are visable on the back and edges and sand smooth so that they look like the fenders.

With the carbon fiber fenders, I would recommend XPEL Ultimate Plus 10 PPF. It is 10 mils thick, while standard ppl is 6 mils. If you wanted to go wild, you could even ask them to double it up for even more protection.

The Ford Performance Carbon Fiber parts are not coming in a satin finish, they will be a matte finish. Regardless of finish, the clear coat can be repaired if cracked, but if your damage goes beyond the clear and into the actual weave, the repair becomes more difficult and $$$.

I am thinking about painting mine. I reached out to several paint shops in the Seattle area and only one gave a price of about $2,600, which quite higher than I had hoped for, so now I am not sure if I will move forward with it. It would be nice to hear how that compares to other here.

It seems to me that these paint shops are only interested in working on collision jobs paid by insurance companies.

If you paint them you’re going to want to ppf them. They attract rocks. That won’t be super cheap either.

I had my fenders and roof wrapped with gloss black PPF. Very pleased with results.
I’m guessing there are various “Blacks”? What matched the body color? My PPF guy didn’t want to wrap the fender flares but I like how that looks. Any issues? Any other pictures showing the roof?
