The Ford Bronco is all the rage right now. After-all, deliveries are finally being made. Adding more fuel to the fire are the Bronco DR and the Bronco 4600 both of which were recently seen in a Ford Performance video, shredding up the Johnson Valley Desert.
While it may look like fun and games in the video, the Ford Performance team is gearing up for the King of The Hammers event coming up January 27th to February 3rd. The annual event tests vehicles and drivers alike with competition in endurance desert racing and rock crawling.
Brian Novak of Ford Performance tells us in the video that both the Bronco DR and the Bronco 4600 are being individually tested and prepped to take on specific challenges at King of The Hammers. The Bronco DR is being developed to tackle more of the desert endurance challenges while the 4600 is being molded into a rock crawling machine.
Ford Bronco DR And Bronco 4600: Details
The Ford Bronco DR, which will be produced by Multimatic Motorsports, is a turn-key Baja 1000 race ready truck that will be available to the private customers, and is expected to be priced from the mid $200,000 range. Powering the Ford Bronco DR is a Coyote 5.0 liter V8 engine – found in the Mustang GT – that puts out about 400 horsepower, and is attached to a 10R80 transmission with electronic shift on the fly transfer case from the F-150. Being that it’s not street legal, Ford Performance made sure that this race truck sounds the business, with none of the DOT or EPA regulations holding it back. The Bronco DR also comes equipped with disc brakes all the way around, and independent electronic-locking front and rear differentials. However, the crown jewel of the Bronco DR is its trick Multimatic suspension system, featuring DSSV dampers, and wild looking fluid reservoirs.Meanwhile, the Ford Bronco 4600 is a bit more production-based. Underneath the racing livery is actually a stock 2.7L EcoBoost V6 and 10-speed automatic powertrain. But it’s running on a competition-tuned High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension (HOSS) System, featuring unique Fox Racing shocks from the production model. And we wouldn’t be surprised to see this hardware trickle down into the Ford Bronco Raptor in some fashion. The interior, like the Bronco DR, is very bare-bones, featuring only what is needed for racing.
