Total Cost of Ownership

🌶️ Raptor is coming up on her 1y anniversary, so the insurance company decided to send us a bill.

My 6m premium went from $614 to $839 to $953. At first blush, the 55% increase was shocking; however, when my agent explained all the details it started to make more sense. It appears that, on a national level, the BRaptors have a very high accident rate, which has caused the entire industry to increase its premiums for [1] Collision, [2] Property Damage, [3] Comprehensive and [4] Underinsured Bodily Injury on said vehicle. Hence, we are all paying for the actions of others.

What have you noticed?

At an annual rate of 2x, Edmunds is going to need to update its 5y ownership projections.

Also REF my 29-DEC-2022 post, which estimated annual insurance at $2,704.

A quick search of three insurance providers yielded an average 6m rate of $1,235; or $2,470 annually for the same coverage. So, I guess I'm doing better than average, but I still don't appreciate the 55% increase.

Week of 2-APR-2024.
Notice production scheduling is only 28-60d out. It used to be 60-90d in 2022-23.

Wow, that's a giant jump in premium! I haven't noticed mine increase, but I will keep an eye on it now. Thanks for the heads-up!

Finally, you can now order a 24MY with body color hardtop ($600) and fenders. DIY for 22-23MY.
I was wanting this a year ago, but now I'm happy with what I have. Local body shops wanted $2500 to paint the hardtop and flares. Hard pass.

Are Bronco sales starting to wane?
Remember when the weekly retail USOB (unscheduled order bank) was 13,000+ for 22MY and early 23MY? Later dropping to 8000+ mid-23MY. Now the USOB is below 2000.

Retail USOB: Is the current mix of retail orders in the unscheduled order bank at the time the report was run. The report only looks at orders that are “clean”, meaning they do not have a compatibility error, material hold or on the 99 priority code.

Obviously, there are sales numbers (see below), but the weekly retail USOB, i.e. production backlog, is also an indicator. Not to be confused with an increase in efficiency at Ford MAP. Other threads on this site and Bronco6G show an increase in resale market availability. A ton of 22-23MY BRaptors selling at less than $75k w/ 20k miles or less. ADMs (remember that POS marketing scam) are a thing of the past as dealers now try to move stale inventory. Just saying. 🤠
