Ford Performance Air/Oil Separator DIY installation

Latest update after speaking with Tom yesterday is they are at least 4-6 weeks out on the new design. Good news at least they are working to get this problem fixed.

I bought my Ford Performance oil air separator from Blue Oval Industries in Illinois. I will never buy anything from them again. I have been trying to get it returned and they DO NOT offer a live phone service. Everything is done by email. A bunch of ass hats in my opinion.
Thank you for the update! I wouldn't expect, but did Tom happen mention if the new design was 4-6 weeks out before testing, production, or shipping?

I'm hoping and expecting that Ford Performance will be sending out the new updated components/systems for all of the current sold systems with a prepaid return label for the replaced components. Hopefully Ford will be able to sort out those that were purchased directly online from Ford Performance, Ford dealerships, or Ford Performance resellers.

I've learned the hard way, before I place online orders I check for a U.S. customer service phone number on their site before placing an any order, if not I move on.

Excellent write up!

I checked today and.......yep its a rubbing.

When I opened the hood there was a white mark at the back as you can see where the catch can meets. Also a very light rubbing of the hose. i wouldn't even call the hose rubbing. Amazing I didn't notice this the other day when I was emptying the catch cans.

That white mark is concave from the rubbing. In these pics it is a bit cleaner as I took the dust off with my fingers.

As you can see there is considerable rub. When I had the rattle issue when these were installed I reported this catch can, when in drive, shakes a real lot. It vibrates more than you would think. I did a visual inspection of this can while vehicle in drive. Of course the rattle has nothing to do with this catch can as discussed. The vibrating; however, is an issue.

I am hoping the rubbing has stopped since it may have rubbed its way clear of the hood with the concave white spot and the can being rubbed down.

It will be interesting to know what you think and any fix that may be appropriate.

Thanks
My god what an over sight on ford part. I just caught mine and I can still make out the letters (ford performance) on the canister, that one has to be close to being eaten through.

I purchased mine directly from them. I'm more upset at what it did to the hood to be honest, I could fab something up for the canister. I'm the type of guy that has put PPF on the lower corners of front grill and fixed the bottom of passenger doors from smacking body. its the ADHD..lol

Just spoke with Ford Performance customer service. A redesigned/solution for the F.P. Air/Oil separator is being worked on by the Engineer.

I looked at it closer today and decided to call Ford Performance Techline on Monday. This is a FP problem so I'll let them investigate and determine a solution. I feel if I modify any part the kit then I've taken ownership of the problem, one that I don't see an easy solution. The back of the canister top touches the hood before the hood is even completely closed. Both canisters are identical, so they aren't switched and the canister could only be lowered by maybe 3/8" before resting on the fittings below, this still doesn't seem enough, especially considering the intented off road usage. Fortunately I won't be driving mine until spring, in Michigan that's typically end of April beginning of May.

If you have the original air tube that this kit replaces, I would consider removing the air/oil separator canister and attached air tubes but leaving the bracket and replacing with the original tube to prevent any further damage. I wouldn't expect any problem leaving only the drivers side canister installed.
If you every day drive and dont want to continue to rub the hood, removing paint and material I dont see how they could hold you accountable for trying to save the hood from they're failed design. I've taken off a bit of the bracket tops and took some of the angle off and mine still rub. The only thing outside of them fixing and replacing mine is to cut bracket in half and grind about 3/8ths out then weld it back. Appreciate the heads up btw.

Mine is simply zip tied. Ford Performance told the Master mechanic in Tucson to do this. I have done thousands of miles and hard off roading with this set up. I've even un zipped it and removed a minor amount of oil last oil change it has been so long. I've been across the country, though mountains, banged it around and all good. Been super busy and nice to be on this site again. I've been looking but not posting. Crazy times. Good buy crazy. Look forward to the fix.

I probably posted these pics before....can't remember

yeah..yesterday I actually just took it off the bracket and let it float. The hoses are stiff enough to hold it in place.

This post is when I first noticed the interference problem during install and then confirmed with other members on this forum. I wanted Ford Performance to ackknowledge and investigate the issue, which they did as quickly as can be expected, before I modified their product.
My Raptor hood remained open all winter while in storage to avoid contact, while I hoped to have a FP solution before spring. Before I removed it from storage a month ago I removed the FP right side canister, bracket, and hoses and reinstalled my UPR catch can for the right side. If I didn't have my UPR as backup, I would have reinstalled the OEM tube.

Interesting. When I was examining the rubbing I was surprised when in drive how much the can was really flopping around on the bracket. I would think a zip tie may be a good idea. You should check it out when it is in drive how much movement you are getting. Again, when in drive on that single bracket it was moving a real lot. Hence the rubbing on the hood.

I put some plastigage on the top, no bumps on it. just free floating I dont reckon is enough force to actually rub the composite on either the hood or canister but isnt hitting anyways. just a temp thing i hope.
